Press Release 06/26/11 By Nhial Gatkuoth Chung Juba: South Sudan Lou Nuer Youth Association in Juba has strongly condemned the attack launched by Murle people between Akobo county and Walgak Sub County.
Murle armed men launched another surprised attack to Lou Nuer people who were trekking with their children, cattle and other essential properties following a long settlement s in grazing field along Pibor River of Akobo east where they spent dry season with their animals, on their way from Akobo to Western part of Akobo this morning they were ambushed by Murle where murle armed men fired indiscriminately killing many children and women, scattering small number of men who were escorting them because they were outnumbered. This attack was so tragic in term of human lives claimed, in which children were killed intentionally and others were abducted, many women are said to have been killed according to report on the ground this morning. Yesterday, western part of Akobo was also attacked in which huge numbers of people were left on the ground, all the houses were burnt to ashes leaving people local population in precarious situation. Government in Khartoum and NCP leadership is supplying Murle with ammunitions and other military hardware to wage countless attack Lou Nuer and cause insecurity in the state. NCP wants to destabilize South Sudan by all means so that the long awaited independent day 9th July will not be celebrated happily by the people of south Sudan. Independent days are now less then 3 weeks and Jonglei state never experience a stability following last year election which led to the several rebellions in different part of south Sudan against GOSS in which many people were caught up in the fighting and got killed either directly or indirectly. Therefore, we urge GOSS of South Sudan to deal not only with NCP in Khartoum but, with Murle which become another NCP in the south, Arabs in Khartoum are directly supporting Murle community so that insecurity in south Sudan becomes order of the day, which sends signal to the international community that GOSS leadership is unable to curb the widespread insecurity issues in the south and in Jonglei State in particular. We need our Government in Juba to introduce amicable policy to disarm civilians who are holding arms illegally in south Sudan and in Jonglei in Particular, Kuol Manyaang failed to to restore security in the state, he never pays a visit to any place where there is fighting or other related problem.
