* Stop this vicious cycles of violence in Jonglei and rest of the country* As a concerned citizen I strongly condemn all the killings of innocent civilians in South Sudan including the recent barbaric killing of over 500 Dengjok, Akobo County. It is a shame that more of our citizens are being killed in huge numbers in the time of peace and achieved Independence. As I am writing now thousands have run into hiding in the surrounding areas and more are feared dead because of the geographical conditions of the area that is swampy and with many rivers to cross. The SPLA forces in the area were ask to intervene but declined. SPLA reaction did not surprise many people as this is not the first time the citizens of Akobo have been attacked no one came to their rescue. *The Murle raiders have killed, abducted a lot of children and women as well as made away with 500,000 cattle from cattle camps.* *Where is the Government of Republic South Sudan that bears the core responsibility to protect its citizens?* The commissioner has been asking for assistance to no avail as the number of people brought to Akobo for treatment has overstretched the local hospital. Assessing from the arrived wounded people, it is likely that the death toll will rise. The International community should put more pressure on President Salva Kiir to do more to protect citizens or face justice if found guilty along with perpetrators. Innocent citizens are dying rapidly under his leadership than the time of civil wars. South Sudan does not need another dictator who favors his own tribe and interest, as leaders of Sudan, Eritrea, Ethiopia, Kenya, and Uganda to mention few. The president, Salva Kiir is the sole responsible of the crime committed by the so called Murle on Nuer Land as the president of the Country and Kuol Manyang as state Governor. In his recent visit to Bor, capitol of Jonglei, the president incited more violence by siding with Murle and vowing to fight the Nuer youth & son of god (Gai Lel Ngundeng) by forceful disarmament and refusing the peaceful call of disbarment made by Vice president Dr.Riek Machar, UN, US ambassador, NGOs, entire South Sudanese communities and the Lou Nuer community in Jonglei. The Commissioner of Pibour said he was aware of the attack by his Murle raiders as well as its youth leaders but chosen not to warn his counterpart. If more blood is to be shed some one will have to pay a high price for his actions. The ongoing killing is selective is going to be worst than RLAs if not addressed urgently. President is putting more effort on negotiating with Sudan on remaining post independent issues, busy contemplating which rout to export our oil, appointing his so called, 1st, 2nd and 3rd class Ambassadors, appoint a de-functioning committee to investigate the root cause of the vicious cycles of violence in Jonglei, acknowledging corruption and not indicting his corrupt officials, not pay attention to raising tensions between states, when same government officials from counties attacks their neighbors, tribes claiming others ancestral lands, organized forces not being there to protect the citizens and the territory of the Republic of South Sudan, South Sudan being invaded by corrupt and thieves Investors, business communities and NGOs, our natural resources being abused, poisoned and land grabbed in the name of Development. The list is endless. But how does the president prioritize the challenges facing his government i.e.1stEconomic, 2 nd Social and 3rd Environment destructions or 1st Region A, 2nd Region B etc&? All the above are happening in the eye of our government of South Sudan and still no action is taken; we should stop putting blames on others and always crying for help from the international community. Republic of South Sudan is Sovereign state and its leadership should to take its responsibility and stand for what it says and does. The GoSS, leadership has had good six years of transition under the CPA to build its foundation and after July 9th 2011 promised 100 days program but concrete actions are not visible instead the foundation started to crack because it was not well researched and reconciled on its demographic composition, ethnicity diversity and the resources used were cheap and corrupt and short cut methodology. Is not time to do the right thing now by doing the following simple steps? · Stop this vicious cycles of violence and conduct a comprehensive reconciliation among the citizens · Restructuring of the government, small, inclusive in all aspects( gender & regional balance) and effective to deliver services · Transform and modernize the organized forces, disciplined and respect human rights · Embark on local industry and mix agriculture for self reliant and food security in South Sudan · Developing non oil revenues to meet the lost income from the oil revenues · Introduce equal development program of State roads, health care, education and infrastructures · Thoroughly investigate the alternatives routs for transporting our oil to the international market, in terms of environment, social and economical impacts to our new nation. Reconsider moving to Ramkiel instead develop equally all 10 Capitols of our 10 States first. · Regulating activities that have national interest such as acquiring of natural resources by international firms etc& · Coordinate all the activities of investors and NGOs in the country to avoid duplications of the actives and spreading the development to the entire country · Continue with ratification of international treaties and acquiring memberships in international bodies. The above are just few things that the government could do to achieve the desired goals of its nation i.e. security, peace and development. I would like to commend the president and his team for progress achieved so far but failing to do more would stain all the future success. The president should personally visit the affected areas and try to figure out what the best way to resolve the conflicts instead of sending his incompetent messengers in peace and conflicts resolutions. |
